Why Should I Buy Glasses From My Optometrist?

As technology continues to advance, we are able to purchase almost anything online with just a few clicks. This has led to an increase in the number of people buying glasses from online retailers. However, there are still some benefits to buying glasses from your optometrist that cannot be replicated by purchasing them online.

Some reasons why you should consider buying glasses from your optometrist are:

  • Personalized fitting and adjustments
  • Professional expertise
  • Access to a wider variety of frames and lenses
  • Maintenance and ongoing care
  • Faster turnaround time for repairs and replacements
  • Quality and authenticity

Personalized Fitting & Adjustments

One of the main benefits of buying glasses from your optometrist is that you will receive a personalized fitting and adjustments if needed. When purchasing glasses online, you are responsible for measuring your own pupillary distance (PD) and selecting the correct frame size.

This can be challenging and may result in ill-fitting glasses that are uncomfortable to wear. Opticians, on the other hand, have the training and tools necessary to accurately measure your PD and ensure that your glasses fit properly.

Eye care professionals can also make minor adjustments to your frames for a more comfortable fit. This can include adjusting the nose pads or temple arms to alleviate pressure points or to prevent your glasses from slipping down your nose.

Professional Expertise

Optometrists have extensive knowledge and training in the field of vision care. They are able to assess your prescription and determine which type of lenses will be most beneficial for your specific needs. This level of expertise cannot be replicated by online retailers.

Moreover, optometrists can also advise you on the best frame styles for your face shape, skin tone, and personal style. They can suggest frames that will not only improve your vision but also help enhance your overall appearance.

Access to a Wider Variety of Frames & Lenses

While online retailers may offer a wide selection of frames, they often lack the ability to provide more specialised options, such as progressive or high-index lenses. Optometrists, on the other hand, have access to a wide variety of frames and lens options from multiple manufacturers.

This means that your optometrist can help you find the perfect combination of style and functionality for your glasses. They can also offer more personalized customizations, such as blue light-blocking coatings for those who spend a lot of time in front of screens.

Maintenance & Ongoing Care

When you purchase glasses online, you may not have access to ongoing care and maintenance services. Optometrists, however, can provide regular checkups to ensure that your prescription is up-to-date and that your glasses are still fitting properly. They can also make necessary repairs or adjustments to keep your glasses in optimal condition.

Additionally, optometrists can also provide guidance on proper care and maintenance of your glasses to help them last as long as possible. They can recommend specific cleaning solutions and techniques to avoid damaging your lenses or frames.

Faster Turnaround Time for Repairs & Replacements

In the event that your glasses do need repairs or replacements, having an optometrist can save you time and hassle. Many optometrists have in-house labs where they can make quick adjustments or create new lenses if needed.

This means that you won’t have to wait weeks for a replacement pair to be shipped and delivered like you would with online retailers. With an optometrist, you can have your glasses fixed or replaced within a matter of days.

Quality & Authenticity

Another advantage of getting your glasses through an optometrist is the level of quality and authenticity. Optometrists work with reputable manufacturers to ensure that the frames and lenses they offer are genuine and of high quality.

They also have strict quality control measures in place to provide glasses that meet industry standards and provide you with clear, accurate vision. This can give you peace of mind knowing that your glasses are not only fashionable but also reliable and effective.

Drawbacks of Purchasing Glasses Online

While buying glasses online may seem convenient and cost-effective, there are some drawbacks to consider. These include:

  • Limited selection: Online retailers may not offer the same variety of frames and lenses as an optometrist would. This can make it difficult to find a pair that fits your style and prescription needs.
  • Inaccurate measurements: Without a trained professional to take your measurements, there is a higher chance of receiving glasses that do not fit properly. This can cause discomfort and affect the effectiveness of your prescription.
  • Lack of expertise: Online retailers may not have the same level of expertise as an optometrist when it comes to fitting and adjusting glasses. This can result in a poor fit or unsatisfactory vision correction.
