We live in a fast-paced world, and for those of us living or working in environments that can be potentially dangerous, eye protection can mean the difference between clarity and vision loss. Safety glasses are more than just an accessory—they’re vital in caring for your eyes. But if you wear glasses, you may find regular safety glasses uncomfortable. That’s where prescription safety glasses come in!

Prescription safety glasses are an excellent way to keep your vision clear and protect your eyes. They’re durable and convenient, and you can get them in a custom fit so they’re still comfortable—even after a long day of work.

The Importance of Safety Glasses

Your eyes are precious, and you use them every day. And whether you’re welding, woodworking, playing sports, or handling chemical substances, the risk of eye damage isn’t just a thought in the back of your head—it’s a tangible thing that could happen at any moment.

Eye injuries aren’t something to take lightly. They can range from minor irritations to serious, permanent damage or even blindness. Fortunately, they’re easy to avoid; you can significantly reduce your risk of eye injuries with a pair of safety glasses.

They act as a barrier between your eyes and anything that could harm them. Splinters, chemical fumes, shrapnel—safety glasses are one of the easiest ways to keep your eyes safe. They shouldn’t ever be considered a suggestion or a general guideline. Instead, they should always be a non-negotiable part of your safety anytime you’re in an environment that could threaten your eyes and vision.

Can You Get Prescription Safety Glasses?

However, safety glasses often aren’t a convenient choice for people who need vision correction every day. It can be difficult to find a pair that fits over our existing frames. And for those who don’t find contact lenses a viable option, it can be next to impossible to find a pair of safety glasses you can actually use.

Fortunately, there’s a simple answer: prescription safety glasses! They’re a custom-made approach to keeping your vision clear—and protected—when you’re in a dangerous environment.

Should I Get Prescription Safety Glasses?

If you wear glasses already, prescription safety glasses can be an excellent choice. They’re a simple, efficient, and effective way to care for your eyes without compromising your safety.

They have several benefits:

  • They provide clear vision
  • They’re convenient
  • They’re durable
  • They can be custom-fit
  • They can be stylish

Clear Vision

Many people who wear their glasses daily find regular safety glasses can be cumbersome and problematic. The 2 pairs of frames can bump together or knock each other around, making it extremely difficult to see. This can be extremely problematic, especially if you’re in a dangerous environment.

So, with a pair of prescription safety glasses, you can easily avoid these problems. You can maintain clear vision without any drawbacks of wearing 2 pairs of glasses at once. No more frames clashing together, eye strain, or fatigue—you can avoid it all. Don’t compromise your vision; it can compromise your safety.

Convenience

No more switching back and forth between regular glasses and safety glasses. Prescription safety glasses offer the convenience of one pair that does it all. Plus, it lowers the chances of forgetting a pair of safety glasses behind—especially since you’re using them to see already.

Durability

Prescription glasses aren’t a fancy alternative. They’re as strong, resilient, and durable as their non-prescription counterparts. They’re held up to the same durability standards.

The lenses are often scratch-resistant, and the frames are designed to take a beating without compromising their structural integrity. Remember: these are made to hold up in a stressful and dangerous environment, so they’re ready to do their job properly without putting your eyes at risk by breaking.

Custom Fits

You aren’t just getting a pair of functional glasses—you’re getting a pair designed to be worn for an extended period without making your day any harder. The frames are more than just effective; they’re often customized to match your face shape, making them comfortable and convenient for long periods.

Style

Prescription safety glasses aren’t just supposed to be functional. They can be fashionable too! With various styles available, you can choose a pair that aligns with your personal taste or workplace requirements. You can showcase your unique style, keep your vision clear, and protect your eyes—all with a single pair.

How Much Do Prescription Safety Glasses Cost?

Like a regular pair of prescription glasses, the cost of prescription safety glasses can vary depending on your prescription and where you purchase them. However, in Alberta, you can expect roughly:

  • Frames averaging around $80-200
  • Lenses averaging around $100-300

If AHCIP  or a private insurance provider doesn’t cover you, you may also have to pay out-of-pocket for the eye exam. Regular comprehensive eye exams cost roughly $100, which can vary.

It’s important to note that these prices are approximate, and your experience may vary depending on your location, optometrist, and unique optical and safety needs.
