Understanding Special Needs Eye Care
Children with special needs may need specific techniques and equipment to get an accurate prescription for their vision needs.
We can accommodate a wide range of special needs that include:
- Developmental needs
- Behavioural and emotional needs
- Physical needs
- Sensory impaired needs
Our team assesses children’s sight and the function of their visual system.
Signs of a Vision Condition
Sometimes, it can be challenging to know children are struggling with their vision. Some telltale signs include:
- Holding reading materials too close
- The inability to listen and look at the same time
- Visual perception problems
- Motion sickness
- Poor reading comprehension
It’s not uncommon for children with special needs to demonstrate certain behaviours, and vision problems can make those behaviours more obvious.
What to Expect During a Special Needs Eye Exam
A comprehensive special needs eye exam typically requires a developmental vision evaluation to test your child’s visual skills.
If our team detects reduced vision or visual skills, we may recommend corrective eyewear or a personalized program for vision therapy. Early identification and action are crucial, and we encourage you to schedule regular eye exams with us to stay ahead of potential problems.
Glasses for Children with Special Needs
Our practice features a variety of eyewear for children with special needs. These customized frames include multiple options for optical lenses designed to provide clear vision and other features designed for comfort.
Our eyewear options can cater to any unique needs your children may have, so we can help them with vision-related issues that affect abilities like reading and learning.
Addressing Your Child’s Vision Needs
While eyeglasses may not solve every issue that a child with special needs may be dealing with, they can help treat underlying vision problems that can contribute to negative symptoms and experiences.
Our team at Eyesis Eyecare wants to do our part, and we’re passionate about helping all children. Contact us to schedule a special needs eye exam for your child today.

Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures globally, with millions of people undergoing the operation each year.
The surgery itself is safe, relatively pain-free, and quick. In just a few hours, patients are ready to head home to rest and focus on the healing process.
Healing from cataract surgery is faster than one may think. While full recovery can take anywhere between 3 to 10 weeks, in just a few days, individuals can experience gradual improvements in their vision. […]

Adjusting to a new pair of glasses takes time. However, if you’ve continuously experienced distorted vision and discomfort while wearing your glasses, this doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an error with the vision prescription. One area of optical care that people may overlook is their pupillary distance.
The pupillary distance (PD) is a measurement taken by your optical team after your routine eye exam. It measures the distance between the centers of your pupils in each eye, confirming that the lenses in your glasses will align correctly with your eye’s focal point. […]
Your child’s vision is just as important as their overall health, and regular children’s eye exams are an easy way to stay on top of their eyesight. These exams aren’t just about checking their prescription—it’s about catching potential issues before they cause your child any inconvenience. You should be scheduling your child’s first eye exam […]
